Overview
Bond provides an Apple HomeKit integration that allows supported devices configured on a Bond Bridge to appear in and be controlled through the Apple Home app.
Device setup and commissioning should always be completed in the Bond Home app first. After the devices are operating correctly in Bond Home, HomeKit can be enabled to expose supported devices to Apple Home.
Applies To
- Bond Bridge (BD-1000)
- Bond Bridge Pro
- Apple Home / HomeKit
- Apple TV or HomePod used as an Apple Home Hub
- Supported Bond-controlled shades, curtains, lights, and ceiling fans
Important: Smart by Bond (SBB) devices are not currently supported through the Bond HomeKit integration.
Before You Begin
Before enabling Apple HomeKit, confirm that:
- The Bond Bridge is online and accessible in the Bond Home app.
- All devices have been added and commissioned in Bond Home.
- Each device operates correctly from the Bond Home app.
- The Bond Bridge firmware is up to date.
- The devices being integrated are supported by the Bond HomeKit integration.
- The customer has an Apple Home configured.
We recommend confirming normal device operation in Bond Home before troubleshooting any Apple Home behavior.
Enable HomeKit
- Open the Bond Home app.
- Go to Settings.
- Select Manage Integrations.
- Select Local Integrations.
- Locate HomeKit and enable the integration.
- Follow the pairing instructions to add the Bond Bridge to the customer's Apple Home.
If the Bond Bridge has already been paired, it is not necessary to pair it again unless troubleshooting requires resetting the integration.
Verify the Integration
After pairing is complete:
- Open the Apple Home app.
- Confirm that the supported Bond accessories appear.
- Test at least one device from Apple Home.
- Confirm that the device responds correctly.
Device names and room assignments can be organized within the Apple Home app after the accessories have been added.
Bond Devices Do Not Appear in Apple Home
If HomeKit pairing completes successfully but the Bond devices do not appear in the Apple Home app, complete the following troubleshooting steps.
1. Confirm Device Operation in Bond Home
Verify that the affected devices operate normally from the Bond Home app.
If they do not work in Bond Home, resolve the device or Bond Bridge configuration issue before continuing with HomeKit troubleshooting.
2. Confirm HomeKit Is Enabled
In the Bond Home app, navigate to:
Settings → Manage Integrations → Local Integrations
Confirm that HomeKit is enabled.
3. Confirm Device Compatibility
Verify that the affected devices are supported through the Bond HomeKit integration.
Smart by Bond (SBB) devices are not currently supported and will not be exposed to Apple Home through this integration.
4. Update the Bond Bridge Firmware
HomeKit reliability and device-discovery improvements may be included in newer Bond firmware releases.
- Open the Bond Home app.
- Go to Settings.
- Select Firmware Channel.
- If directed by Bond Support or your Bond representative, select Beta to access the firmware containing the latest HomeKit-related fixes.
- Return to the main screen.
- Install the available firmware update.
- Allow the Bond Bridge to restart completely.
After the Bridge comes back online, open Apple Home and check whether the devices now appear.
If the devices are visible and operational, no further action is required.
5. Reset and Re-Pair HomeKit
If supported devices still do not appear after updating the firmware:
- Open the Bond Home app.
- Select the affected Bond Bridge.
- Open the HomeKit integration.
- Swipe left on the HomeKit integration.
- Tap Reset.
- Power-cycle the Bond Bridge.
- Wait until the Bridge is fully online.
- Re-enable the HomeKit integration.
- Pair the Bond Bridge with Apple Home again.
- Confirm that the supported devices appear and respond correctly in Apple Home.
Expected Result
After successful configuration:
- Supported Bond accessories appear in the Apple Home app.
- Supported shades and curtains can be controlled through Apple Home.
- Supported lights and ceiling fans can be controlled when applicable.
- Devices continue to operate normally through the Bond Home app.
HomePod vs. Apple TV
A missing-device condition has been observed in an installation using a HomePod as the Apple Home Hub, while another installation using an Apple TV operated normally.
In the reported case, updating the Bond Bridge firmware and, when necessary, resetting and re-pairing the HomeKit integration resolved the issue.
The Apple Home Hub type should therefore be recorded when troubleshooting, but it does not necessarily indicate that the HomePod or Apple TV itself is the cause of the issue.
HomeKit Support and Limitations
Bond's HomeKit integration is unofficial and is not Apple-certified.
Currently supported device types include:
- Motorized shades
- Supported window coverings and curtains
- Lights
- Supported ceiling fans
Smart by Bond (SBB) devices are not currently supported through the HomeKit integration.
Available devices and behavior may also depend on the Bond Bridge firmware version and how the device is configured within Bond Home.
Information to Collect Before Escalating
If the issue remains after completing the troubleshooting procedure, collect the following information:
- Bond Bridge model
- Bond firmware version
- Firmware channel
- Apple Home Hub type, such as Apple TV or HomePod
- Affected device type(s)
- Whether the devices operate correctly in Bond Home
- Whether HomeKit pairing completes successfully
- Whether the devices are completely absent from Apple Home or appear but do not respond
- Whether the firmware update was completed
- Whether HomeKit was reset and re-paired
Provide this information to Bond Support or your designated Bond technical contact for further investigation.
