Firefly Remote Pairing, Offline Control, and Status Indicators

Overview

Firefly Aura and Firefly Pixel can be controlled by compatible Bond remotes using Bond Connect technology.

Bond Connect allows Firefly to operate locally without requiring a Bond Bridge, Wi-Fi, or the Bond Home app for basic control.

Pairing a Mate Remote with Firefly

To pair a Mate with Firefly, the Mate channel must be set to Bond Connect.

General pairing process:

1. Power on the Firefly unit.
2. Open the pairing window on Firefly.
3. On the Mate, enter the configuration menu.
4. Set the desired channel to Bond Connect.
5. Pair the Mate channel with Firefly.
6. Confirm that the Firefly unit responds to remote commands.

On Mate, one way to enter the menu is by pressing K1 and K3 together.

Note: Pairing uses RF communication between the remote and Firefly. When assigning a Sidekick channel through the app, the app can link the channel to Firefly without requiring RF firing during that app-based assignment.

Opening the Pairing Window

The pairing window can be opened by:

• Power cycling the Firefly unit
• Pressing the setup button on the unit
• Using a paired Mate remote

If a remote is already paired, the configuration access point closes automatically after 10 minutes for security.

Remote Control Behavior

Once paired, the Mate can control the LED strip.

Common controls:

• Tap Up: turn lights on to 100%
• Tap Down: turn lights off
• Hold Up: smoothly increase brightness
• Hold Down: smoothly decrease brightness
• Tap Stop/Middle: cycle through factory-programmed presets, colors, or color temperatures

Remote Pairing and Reset Actions

Using the Mate pair button:

• Hold for 3 seconds: open the pairing window
• Hold for 10 seconds: forget all other paired remotes

Using the auxiliary button:

• Hold for 5 seconds: forget Wi-Fi credentials while preserving other settings
• Hold for 10 seconds: perform a full factory reset

Status Indicators

Firefly uses LED status indicators to help with setup and troubleshooting.

Indicator	Meaning
Flashing green	Unit is in setup mode
Solid green	Pairing or setup was successful
White blink	Remote command was received
Solid blue	Unit is connecting to Wi-Fi or connected locally without internet access
Solid orange	Fault condition or incorrect Wi-Fi credentials

Troubleshooting Remote Control

If the remote does not control the Firefly unit:

1. Confirm the remote channel is configured for Bond Connect.
2. Confirm the Firefly pairing window is open.
3. Confirm the remote is close enough to the Firefly unit.
4. Look for a white blink on the Firefly unit when pressing the remote.
5. If there is no white blink, the Firefly may not be receiving the remote command.
6. Reopen the pairing window and try pairing again.
7. If needed, reset the remote pairing and re-pair the Mate.

Troubleshooting Incorrect Colors

If the LED strip turns on but the colors are wrong:

For Firefly Aura:

• Check for swapped wires.
• Confirm the correct strip type was selected.
• Reconfigure Device Ports in the Bond Home app.

For Firefly Pixel:

• Confirm the correct LED protocol was selected.
• Use the app’s color-order identification process.
• Reconfigure Device Ports if the wrong protocol or order was selected.

Scheduling Limitation

Firefly schedules can run at runtime, but if Firefly is not working with a bridge, it needs an internet connection to sync time.

If schedules do not run as expected, confirm the Firefly unit has internet access or is operating in a supported setup with time synchronization.
