Overview
The Bond Sidekick is a universal remote for motorized shades, screens, and awnings. It can be configured to work with a variety of motor technologies.
Out of the box, the Sidekick defaults to Somfy RTS, but it can also be programmed for other supported motor technologies, including Rollease Acmeda, Gaposa, and others:
The Sidekick can also be linked to a Bond Bridge Pro using Bond Connect. With Bond Connect, each Sidekick channel can be linked to a device in the Bond Home app, allowing control of devices in the Bond ecosystem such as shades, ceiling fans, lights, and heaters without advanced per-button configuration.
What You’ll Need For Initial Setup?
- Bond Sidekick remote
- Included coin cell battery
- Included programming pin or tool
- Bond Home app, if using Bond Connect
- Bond Bridge Pro, if using Bond Connect
Installing the Battery
- Flip the Bond Sidekick over.
- Remove the back cover by popping it off from the top edge.
- Insert the included coin cell battery into the battery slot.
- Make sure the text and positive side of the battery are facing up.
- Snap the back cover back into place.
Programming Overview
The menu button on the back of the Sidekick is used for programming.
You can program the Sidekick in two ways:
- Global programming: Applies the same motor technology to all five channels.
- Single-channel programming: Applies a motor technology to only one selected channel.
Program All Channels to the Same Technology
Use this method when you want all five Sidekick channels to use the same motor technology.
In this example, the Sidekick is programmed globally to Bond Connect.
- Do not select any channel buttons on the front of the Sidekick.
- Flip the Sidekick over.
- Press the menu button using the included pin or tool.
- While the light is blinking, press: 4, 3, 4, 5
- Press the Stop button to finish.
- The lights will flash to confirm programming.
All channels are now set to Bond Connect.
Program a Single Channel to a Specific Technology
Use this method when only one Sidekick channel should use a different motor technology.
In this example, Channel 2 will be programmed for a Gaposa motor.
- Press Channel 2 on the front of the Sidekick.
- Flip the Sidekick over.
- Press the menu button using the included pin or tool.
- Because a specific channel is selected, press 1 first.
This tells the Sidekick to program only the selected channel instead of the whole remote. - While the light is blinking, press: 3, 5
- Press the Stop button to finish.
- The selected channel light will blink to confirm programming.
Channel 2 is now set to Gaposa technology. The other channels remain unchanged.
Using Bond Connect
When the Sidekick is set up with Bond Connect, you can add it to the Bond Home app and link each channel to a device in your Bond account.
This allows the Sidekick to control supported Bond ecosystem devices, such as:
- Motorized shades
- Screens
- Awnings
- Ceiling fans
- Lights
- Heaters
Bond Connect does not require advanced per-button configuration. Instead, each Sidekick channel is linked directly to a device in the Bond Home app.
Notes
- The Sidekick defaults to Somfy RTS out of the box for all channels.
- Programming without selecting a channel applies the chosen technology to all channels.
- Programming with a channel selected applies the chosen technology only to that channel.
- When programming a selected channel, use the official programming modifier by pressing 1 before entering the technology code.
- Refer to the Sidekick User Manual for the official list of supported motor technologies and available programming codes.
