Alexa commands

When using Alexa to control your Bond devices, it is import that you name them something easy to remember.  If the ceiling fan in your bedroom is DEVICE 1, changing the name to "Bedroom" will help you remember which device you want to control.

It is also important to note that the Alexa home skill uses a percentage (%) to control the speed of a fan. The Alexa command to turn the ceiling fan to speed 2 of a three speed fan would be "Alexa, set the Bedroom fan to 50%."

Commands for Alexa

  • "Discover my devices"
  • Turn Device on and off
    • "Alexa, turn on bedroom fan"
    • "Alexa, turn off bedroom fan"
  • Turn Device Light on and off
    • "Alexa, turn on bedroom light"
    • "Alexa, turn off bedroom light"
    • "Alexa, turn on the Living Room Fan Top Light"
    • "Alexa, turn off Bigfan Bottom Light"
  • Fan Speed Setting
    • "Alexa, set bedroom fan to 50%"
    • "Alexa, set bedroom fan to 20%"
    • "Alexa, decrease bedroom fan by 40%"
    • "Alexa, increase bedroom fan by 10%"
    • "Alexa, increase bedroom fan" - increments speed by one...from 2 to 3
    • "Alexa, decrease bedroom fan" - decreases speed by one...from 2 to 1

Please make sure you use your easily remembered device name when speaking the Alexa command.  If you have an issue with Alexa turning the fan on instead of the fan light, please remove FAN from the device name.

  • I have a 3 speed Hampton Bay fan (low, med, high) and for Alexa, I have found that you can state commands like “Alexa, increase bedroom fan” or “Alexa, decrease bedroom fan” and Bond will increase or decrease the fan speed one level.

  • Anyone know how to get Alexa to reverse the fan direction or dim the lights? Both functions work in the bond app but I can't find a way to get Alexa to do it.

  • i got it to work by installing a dimmer wall switch on the fan/light. then i was able to control the dimming of the light as well as the speed of the fan using percentages

  • It seems that you can now say Low or High with respect to the fan speed - but not medium. Maybe someone from BOND can confirm the new behavior and update the post.

Also, I wasn't able to get Alexa to see the Up Light or Down Light devices - Just a single "Light" device.  How is that supposed to work?

  • Have a Hampton Bay Fan with upper and lower lights. The app appears to have the correct fan/light product figured out. The Bond app can control the fan: off, slow, medium, high, off so we are ok there. The challenge is that it does not access both upper and lower lights, only 1 of the 2. And the dimmer function does not work although there is a dimmer button on the app display. Anybody get the 2 lights or the dimmer to work?

Update: the solution to the 2 light problem: go to the app, find the ceiling fan with the lights you are trying to control, hit the + button to add more "controls", follow the instructions to add the 2 additional lights, after verifying the top and bottom lights are added go to Alexa to have her discover these 2 new lights.  Note: Alexa cannot currently dim these lights via command yet although they can be dimmed in the app.  Hope this helps.

  • Just set up my Bond. I can control the fan speed through Alexa, but I can’t get the light function to work. It works on the app and when I ask her to turn the light on, she responds ok but then it seems she turns the fan speed down.

  • Lisa Vercellone same problem here

  • Same as Lisa Vercellone also.  Google assistant seems to work though.
